Odyssey “Phil” Putter Will Be A Limited Edition

The new Odyssey ProType 82 putter, which will have a limited release, was inspired by the putter used by Phil Mickelson to win the Masters earlier this year.
It features a sleek, blade-like design with a single sight-line running from the face to the back of the flange. It also features Odyssey’s latest insert technology, White Ice.
Less that 1,500 will be available through authorized Callaway retailers in Canada from now until the 2011 golf season begins.
“It’s great to get feedback from our tour professionals, in this case Phil Mickelson, and turn that direct input into products for our consumers with our latest inserts,” said Austie Rollinson, principal designer for Odyssey.
“From a consumer standpoint, there is always demand for the putter designs that tour pros use and we are constantly speaking with golfers to see what they are most interested in. We’re thrilled to deliver these ProType replica models to the golfing public,” added Rollinson.
The PT 82 Putter also boasts a Milled Tungsten insert, which has been placed behind the face to ensure precise weight and feel. The putter is cast out of stainless steel with a PVD finish. It also features a PT Pistol grip.
In an effort to enhance sound, responsiveness, resiliency and consistency, the White Ice insert found in the PT 82 has been fine-tuned. The inner core is 19.6 per cent firmer to enhance feel and 92 per cent stiffer for better resiliency for consistent distance control.
The face surface has been roughened to enhance the sound at impact with softer golf balls and increase friction to promote forward roll.
“Now more golfers will be able to use a replica of the model that I rely on each week on the PGA Tour. The Odyssey design team is the industry leader and it shows in the number of worldwide tournaments that Odyssey putters help win every year,” said Mickelson.

Backstryke Goes For Forward Press
April 28, 2010 by GNN · Leave a Comment
A forward press putting style is the objective of the new Backstryke line of putters from Odyssey.
“Backstryke offers a compelling combination of benefits designed to improve the way players align, stroke and roll the ball,” said Austie Rollinson, principal designer for Odyssey.
“The shaft lean found in Backstryke encourages a forward press putting style used by many of the great players in the game,” he added.
“The way the shaft enters the putter head creates a unique balance, a pleasing, almost elegant look, and also makes it easier to align the putter with the ball. Backstryke is a bona fide triple threat,” said Rollinson.
The shaft in the Backstryke was moved back, placing the axis of the shaft as close as possible to the putter head’s centre of gravity to promote a fluid, stable stroke path for distance control, consistency and accuracy.
Backstryke also has Visible Face Alignment, which is designed to offer a clear look to see if the face is square to the target line without the shaft impeding the line of sight.
Backstryke’s Forward Press Stabilization allows the golfer to use a hands-forward position, without de-lofting the head to promote an upward stroke on the ball. The shaft position is also designed to create a stable, straight line with the leading arm to prevent wrists from breaking down during the stroke.
Odyssey’s White Ice multi-layer insert with an inner core that is 19.6 per cent firmer to enhance feel and 92 per cent stiffer for better resiliency is also incorporated into Backstryke, which is available in Blade, Marxman and 2-Ball models.
A new My Odyssey portal at the MyCallaway.ca website will allow consumers to use an interactive putter fitting module and access news and retail information.

Odyssey Sought Expert Advice for Black Series Tour Designs
January 10, 2010 by GNN · Leave a Comment
The new Odyssey Black Series Tour Designs milled putters will be introduced to retail on Jan. 15.
Milled from 1025 carbon steel to provide soft feel, the Black Series Tour Design putters offer updated shapes and more head options.
“In creating the Black Series Tour Designs putters, we consulted with some of the greatest players in the game, including Phil Mickelson,” said Austie Rollinson, principal designer for Odyssey Golf.
“We incorporated this tour player feedback into the design of these precision-crafted milled putters. The result is updated shapes and more head options preferred by better players, all delivering the truest roll possible in a premium look.”
Black Series Tour Design putters feature Advanced Roll Technology (ART) for precise response and true roll.
ART is achieved through multi-material construction, using tungsten weighting,
to create a quicker, more favorable roll by moving the centre of gravity back and lower in the putter head.
A urethane dampening layer is placed between the carbon steel putter head and the tungsten flange to enhance feel at impact.
The milled face has a precise, deep milling pattern to generate consistent impact performance across the face for better feel, distance control and a smooth roll.
Each putter is finished with a Deep Black PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating for a durable, glare-free look that was added specifically in response to feedback received from elite golfers.
Black Series Tour Designs are available in several core models.
Odyssey Offers An Icy Putting Solution

The new White Ice putters come with Multi-Layer Insert Technology that features an inner layer that is 19 per cent firmer than previous Odyssey designs to enhance feel and 92 per cent stiffer for better resiliency for consistent distance control.
The lightweight, multi-layer insert allows weight to be moved back and lower in the putter for a low centre of gravity, leading to quicker and truer roll.
Head optimization is another feature of the White Ice putters. In White Ice core models, tuned weight ports in the sole are designed to create optimal putter balance by adjusting the weight of the head to the length of the shaft to maximize feel, control and accuracy.
The roughened face surface is designed to increase friction between the ball and the putter to promote forward roll. The White Ice putters come with a new dark nickel finish.
Five models are currently being offered in Canada.
Odyssey Offers Lots of Options in ’09

Odyssey has introduced its product lineup for 2009.
“Odyssey understands putting. It’s a game within a game,” said Chris Walling, director of marketing for Callaway Golf Canada and Odyssey Golf.
“From the White Hot XG Progressive putter, which features some of the most advanced head shapes in golf, to the more traditional tour-inspired Black Series, I am certain all golfers will be able to find the perfect Odyssey putter to take their games to the next level,” he added.
The head on the White Hot XG Progressive putters has high-density wings to position more weight on the outer edges to provide high moment of inertia (MOI) and keep the putter stable during the stroke to increase accuracy, distance control and feel. Each putter features a White Hot XG insert for feedback and soft feel.
Golfers can benefit from custom design elements within the White Hot Tour Line. The weight ports in the sole allow engineers to precisely control the head’s weight to best match a specific shaft length for consistency, control and performance. Each has a new White Hot Tour insert with a firmer feel for responsiveness and feedback.
The precision-milled Odyssey Black Series and Black Series i putters feature traditional styling and multi-material construction that combines with a nickel-plated finish.
The new Crimson Series features various head shapes and Odyssey’s insert technology. Each putter is constructed from Grade 431 stainless and includes the Crimson Stronomic insert for firm feedback and responsiveness.
Introduced earlier this year, Odyssey’s Divine Line was designed specifically for the women’s game, with increased head weights to unite with shorter shaft lengths,
Here’s a look at the individual models available within each line:
