The new Cobra S2 Iron Series is designed for avid golfers who seek accuracy and distance with a forgiving mid-width sole design, while the S2 Forged Irons offer control, distance and forgiveness with the feel of a forged iron.

“With this introduction, we build on our heritage of offering technologically advanced, game-enhancing irons at an exceptional value. Golfers of all abilities will be drawn to the Cobra S2 Irons for their accuracy, distance, forgiveness and confidence-inspiring profile,” said Brian Zender, general manager of Cobra Golf.

“Likewise, the Cobra S2 Forged Irons will attract better players seeking superior control, distance and feel in a tour-inspired shape,” said Zender.

The new multi-material Cobra S2 Irons feature a new cavity design with heel-toe weighting and utilize lightweight polymer materials that allow discretionary weight to be pushed low in the heel and toe, to increase moment of inertia. The mid-width stepped sole is designed to offer superior turf interaction.

“The Cobra S2 Irons were designed to have broad appeal while delivering the accuracy, distance and feel that have become hallmarks of Cobra design,” said Tom Preece, vice president of research and development for Cobra Golf.

“We expanded the urethane sole insert and modified the polymer top line and toe insert, which combine with the stainless steel 431 body to drive greater forgiveness.

“In addition, the low, back CG and stronger lofts result in greater distance with high, playable trajectories and the new mid-width sole design delivers additional forgiveness with the turf interaction desired by avid players,” he added.

The new Cobra S2 Forged Irons are designed to offer control and increased distance, with forged feel. In addition, the Cobra S2 Forged Irons feature a tour-inspired shape and design to appeal to skilled players.

The 1025 forged carbon steel lends itself to soft feel at impact, while CNC milled grooves are designed to promote consistent trajectories and spin characteristics.

The cavity back design with extreme perimeter weighting is used to provide enhanced accuracy and control, with forgiveness, as well as greater ball speed and distance, even on off-centre hits.

New L5V Driver is Adjustable, but Cobra Emphasizes Fitting

October 7, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

During a Cobra product introduction on Monday at Eagles Nest near Toronto, the good folks at Acushnet Canada were emphasizing the large face and forgiveness of the new L5V driver, while making the adjustability of that very same club a secondary consideration.

The L5V comes with a hosel design that allows golfers to adjust the neutral standard factory setting to a draw-biased setting through use of a torque wrench that screws into a hosel screw port. It also allows users to change shafts and there are more than 30 options available.

Adjustability has been gaining strength as a trend over the last few years, ranging from adjustable weight technology to various shaft and head options for golfers who love to tinker with their clubs or change them for various weather and/or course conditions.

Adjustability was a hot topic at the PGA Merchandise Show in January, where a huge discussion was held on the topic at the Orange County Convention Centre in Orlando. Read more

Cobra L5V Offers Large Clubface with Adjustability

The new L5V driver features a large clubface to provide maximum COR across the face, along with forgiveness.

It also has a lightweight carbon composite crown and sole inserts to maximize moment of inertia and shift the centre of gravity lower to provide high launch and low spin for longer, straighter drives.

The L5V also features a unique hosel design that allows golfers to adjust it for personal ball flight characteristics and to accommodate more than 30 shaft options.

The clubface in the L5V features Cobra’s milled Dual Rhombus Face insert that, combined with its large clubface, is built to provide maximum COR across the face.

The L5V also has a swingweight screw to help balance the clubhead with the shaft. Each swingweight screw is specifically weighted for X, F or M stock Diamana Red Board shafts. All custom shafts are available with a custom weighted screw for ideal swingweight.

Each L5V comes with a proprietary L5V torque wrench that can be inserted into the hosel screw port to adjust the ball flight and/or change the shaft. The adjustable weight technology allows ball flight to be adjusted for standard and draw-biased flights.

Also new from Cobra is the Transition-S hybrid/iron set that includes eight clubs that transition from utility metals to hybrid irons to wide-sole irons.

The utility metals in the three through five clubs have a wide sole and low crown design with an offset hosel. The low and back centre of gravity and increased moment of inertia are features designed to maximize forgiveness, enhance launch conditions and offer a draw-biased flight.

The hybrid irons in six and seven have a hollow body construction, low profile, back weighted design, heel-biased centre of gravity and a wide, rounded sole. Performance benefits include increased MOI, higher launch, enhanced draw-biased ball flight and improved turf interaction.

Eight through sand wedge feature a cavity back, wide-sole design with a urethane-filled back cavity to offer low and back centre of gravity and soft feel.

Designed for players who seek more forgiveness, carry distance and accuracy, the transition irons are available in men’s, seniors’ and women’s models with custom options available for length, grip and set composition.
