The Web.com Tour Championship, which had been scheduled to start Thursday in Atlantic Beach, Fla., has been canceled due to the threat of Hurricane Matthew.
Governor Rick Scott declared a statewide emergency on Monday. An evacuation of Atlantic Beach was issued Wednesday morning by the state of Jacksonville.
The Atlantic Beach Country Club is only a few blocks from the ocean.
With 25 PGA Tour cards already secured by the top 25 on the regular season money list, including Canadians Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., and Brad Fritsch of Manotick, Ont., the Web .com Tour Championship is the fourth and final event in the tour’s Finals, in which the second set of 25 tour cards next season was to be awarded following the conclusion of play.
With the tournament canceled, all earnings through three events of the Web.com Tour Finals are deemed final.
Hughes finished 15th in combined regular season and finals earnings, while Fritsch was 18th.
No Canadian will get in via the top 25 on the specific finals money list.
The Symetra Tour has also moved the first round of its event in Florida this week from Friday to Saturday. For more on that, click here.
