From a Canadian perspective, all eyes were on Rod Spittle of Niagara Falls, Ont., at the Senior PGA Championship in St. Louis as the two-time Canadian Amateur champion was fourth going into Sunday’s final round at six under, four shots off the lead.
At that point, Victoria’s Jim Rutledge was in the dust of the leaders in a tie for 36th, but that quickly changed as Rutledge kicked it into overdrive at the first Champions Tour major of the season and posted a bogey-free 64 to tie for sixth.
That left him in a dead heat with Spittle, whose four birdies were offset by two bogeys and a double bogey in posting a 71 to also tie for sixth.

Elsewhere, Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., faded from contention for his first PGA Tour win after going into Sunday’s final round at Colonial just one shot off the lead.
DeLaet opened the final round with a birdie, but the rest of the way posted six bogeys against just one birdie to post a four-over 74 to tie for 22nd.
