Hamilton’s Alena Sharp shot a three-under 69 to finish the first round of the Kia Classic in Carlsbad, Calif, four shots off the lead.
Sharp, who had four birdies against one bogey on the day, goes into Friday’s second round tied for 17th.

The first round of the Web .com Tour’s Chitimacha Louisiana Open was suspended due to darkness, leaving Brad Fritsch with unfinished business at three under through 16 holes, six off the lead in Broussard, La.
Fritsch was tied for 23rd, a shot ahaed of Calgary’s Ryan Yip, who had only made it through nine when play was called for the day. Roger Sloan of Merritt, B.C., got his first round finished at one under.
