David Hearn, who is looking to stay in the top 125 who make the FedEx Cup playoffs and in doing so, maintain status on the PGA Tour, opened the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., with a three-under 67.
Hearn was 121st in FedEx Cup regular season points coming into the Wyndham, the final event before the playoffs get underway.
Brad Fritsch, who was 205th coming into this week’s event and is looking to finish between 125th and 200th to play the Web.com Finals to regain his status, also shot a first round 67.
Both are tied for 34th.

Calgary’s Ryan Yip shot a four-under 67 to open the New Sentinel Open in Knoxville, Tenn and is tied for 11th.
Ben Silverman of Thornhill, Ont., who won last week’s Price Cutter Charity Championship, fired a 68 on Thursday and is tied for 22nd.

Derek Gillespie of Oshawa, Ont., shot an opening round, even par 72 at Abierto del Paraguay-Copa NEC and is tied for 43rd in Asuncion, Paraguay.
