Ben Silverman of Thornhill, Ont., has earned his fourth consecutive top 10 finish on the Web.com Tour, this time a tie for second at the Portland Open, where he finished with a five-under 66 on Sunday
Silverman’s streak began at the Utah Championship, where he tied for fifth, followed by his first-ever Web.com Tour victory at the Price Cutter Championship, which earned him graduation to the PGA Tour through the top 25 on the money list. Last week, Silverman tied for seventh at the News Sentinel Open.
In Portland, the final regular season stop before the Web.com Finals get underway next week, Silverman finished all four rounds at 14 under, leaving him four shots off the winning score. The leaderboard is here.
All four Canadians who started the FedEx Cup will continue into this week’s Dell Technologies Championship in Boston, despite two missing the cut and one withdrawing from the Northern Trust this past week.
Mackenzie Hughes was the lone Canadian to play the weekend at Old Westbury, N.Y., where he tied for 62nd after shooting a final round 75 on Sunday. The final leaderboard is here.
Hughes fell from 34th to 37th in FedEx Cup standings, while Adam Hadwin, who missed the cut, dropped from 13th to 18th. Nick Taylor, who also missed the cut, fell from 84th to 92nd and Graham DeLaet, who withdrew with back problems, went from 67th to 74th.
The top 100 play in Boston, where DeLaet and Taylor will need good performances to get into the top 70 who move on to next week’s BMW Championship.
PGA Tour Champions
Stephen Ames shot a final round, three-under 69 on Sunday at the Boeing Classic in Snoqualmie, Wash., where he tied for 13th at 10 under.
