Three exemptions into next week’s RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ont., will be awarded after this week’s Staal Foundation Open in Thunder Bay, Ont.
The top three on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada Order of Merit after the tournament will receive the exemptions, one of which is already guaranteed for Dan McCarthy of Syracuse, N.Y., who leads the money list with $105,438.
Currently, Adam Cornelson ($36,352) of Langley, B.C., and Germany’s Max Rottluff ($35,350) are second and third, respectively, followed by Vancouver’s Ryan Williams ($28,448) and Carter Jenkins ($27,668) of Raleigh, N.C., are fourth and fifth, respectively.
This week’s event will also mark the debut of Aaron Wise, who won the 2016 NCAA individual championship as well as winning the Mackenzie Tour’s B.C. Q-school.
Blair Hamilton of Burlington, Ont., has earned the Golf Canada exemption, while sponsor exemptions go to former Edmonton Oiler all-star goalie Grant Fuhr and the Thunder Bay contingent of Jeff Hunter, Walt Keating, Evan Littlefield and Robbie Untinen.
Toronto’s Lucas Kim and Sang Hwa Lee Monday qualified along with Michael Blair of Ancaster, Ont.
The field will include 30 Canadians.
