Those who were on hand for the 2009 RBC Canadian Open at nearby Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ont., are hoping history doesn’t repeat itself at Hamilton Golf and Country Club, with the 2012 Open getting underway Thursday morning.
In 2009, rain, thunder and lightning delayed the Open several times and it was forced into a Monday finish, won by Nathan Green in a playoff. After a dry summer in Southern Ontario, a delay in proceedings remains a real possibility this year.
Severe storms were expected in Southern Ontario overnight on Wednesday, with most areas expected to receive 15 to 30 mm of rain and as high as 50 mm in some areas, with possible damaging winds, as well as thunder and lightning. They were expected to ease in the morning, but appear again in the afternoon.
More thunderstorms could appear Friday and Saturday, with a sunny Sunday as part of the forecast. Watch GNN for updates.
