Jessica Shepley of Oakville, Ont., fired a one-under 72 in the final round to win the season-opening event on the 2010 CN Canadian Women’s Tour at Quilchena Golf and Country Club in Richmond, B.C.
Shepley carded four birdies and three bogeys to finish the tournament at one over par, one shot ahead of four others.
“I’ve been playing really well lately, finding ways to get the job done,” said Shepley of her first Canadian Women’s Tour title. “When you’re playing on home soil, pride is definitely an issue. I am so happy, it’s hard to describe.”
Shepley earned $10,000 for the win and will play in the CN Canadian Women’s Open later this year at Winnipeg’s St. Charles Golf and Country Club, although she had already earned a ticket into that event by winning last year’s Canadian PGA Women’s Championship.
Jennifer Greggain of Rosedale, B.C., was the top teaching professional at six-over par. Sarah-Andrea Landry of Brossard, Que., claims top amateur honours, finishing at three over par.
The next CN Canadian Women’s Tour stop takes place June 27-29 at Blue Springs Golf Club in Acton, Ont., with the final event scheduled for July 11-13 at Club de golf Rivermead in Gatineau, Que.
