Can Tiger be a major contributor to the U.S. team, despite his poor Ryder Cup record?
“The American team overall has lacked cohesion. That includes Tiger’s chemistry with his own playing partners, which is the primary reason for Tiger’s poor Ryder Cup record. This lack of unity is Tiger’s and the American team’s Achilles Heel which, in turn, happens to be the Europeans’ strength. If Tigersand his playing partners can find the chemistry that will allow them to comfortably settle in and play like they can, Tiger’s contribution should be a determining factor.”
There’s been a lot of talk about Medinah being set up for the Americans, but as you’ve said in the past, the Europeans play all kinds of courses. Will this be any different?
“My design partner, Armen Suny, was hired by Medinah to help Curtis Tyrrell prepare Medinah’s No.3’s condition for this year’s Ryder Cup. Armen has been to Medinah many times over the past two years, including all of this past week. Armen mentioned that Curtis has definitely prepared the course exactly how Davis Love III wants it to play for his players. Having said that, I do not think the course set-up will allow for a distinct advantage for the American team at all. The European team is just as skilled and perhaps, more creative than the American players even on typical American style of golf course set-up.
