The Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada season reaches the end this week with its finale, the Freedom 55 Financial Championship being played at the Stanley Thompson-designed Highland Country Club in London, Ont.
The field includes the top 60 players on the Order of Merit through last weekend’s Ontario Championship, who also retain exempt status for the 2018 season.
It is also the final opportunity to players to earn status on the Web.com Tour next season or earn exemptions into various stages of Web.com Q-school.
The No. 1 player on the Order of Merit at the conclusion of the Freedom 55 Financial Championship on Sunday will be fully exemption on the Web.com Tour next season, while finishers two through five receive conditional stus.
Thos who finish between sixth and 10th will get an exemption into the final stage of Web.com Tour Q-school, while finishers 11 through 20th receive exemptions into the second stage of Q-school.
Kramer Hickok of Dallas, a two-time winner this season, has a firm grip on top spot and has assured himself of a finish no lower than second on the Order of Merit, which is here.
Tour rookie Jared du Toit of Kimberley, B.C., who has three top-10 finishes and six top-25s, is currently 22nd on the Order of Merit, making him the top Canadian, which will earn him thd Dan Halldorson Trophy as Canadian Player of the Year and a $25,000 as Canadian Player of the Year should it remain that way on the weekend in London.
He is among eight Canadians in the field this weekend, including Vancuver’s Seann Harlingten and Ryan Williams, Calgary’s Wes Heffernan and James Love, Toronto’s Daniel Kim, Aaron Cockerill of Stony Mountain, Man., and Michael Gligic of Burlington, Ont.
