After each shot a three-under 68 in Thursday’s opening round at the Marathon Classic in Sylvania, Ohio, Maude-Aimee Leblanc and Brooke Henderson go into Fridays just two off the lead.
Leblanc was at even par after the 14th hole before striking for three consecutive birdies and a par on her final hole of the day.
Henderson had three birdies and a bogey on her front nine to make the turn at two under, before adding birdies on her 13th and 16th holes, but bogey her final hole of the day.
“Going into today I knew the course conditions were going to be a little bit softer and easier in the morning with the big rain last night and just because it was in the a.m. and it was going to be a little bit easier, so I tried to take advantage,” said Henderson.
“Unfortunately, I dropped a shot on the last hole which got me back to three under. Overall, it was a solid day. I got some really good breaks out there and was able to take advantage for the most part when I had an opportunity,” she said.
“There is tons of golf left. I know I didn’t have my best game today, but I still have three more days to climb up the leaderboard and hopefully be in that No. 1 spot,” she added.
With Leblanc and Henderson tied for seventh at three under, Hamilton’s Alena Sharp is two shots back after she shot a 70.
