Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., and Sue Kim of Langley, B.C., are tied for 11th, four shots off the lead after the first day of the U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
Each shot a one-over 71 on a day that saw Henderson, 16, leading the tournament, one ahead of world No. 1 Stacy Lewis, when she got her score to three under on the 10th hole before bogeys on four of her final eight holes.
She finished the day with four birdies and five bogeys overall. Kim had three bogeys and an eagle to also finish at one over on a day that concluded with Lewis in the lead at three under, one up on Michelle Wie, before play was called due to weather.
