A pair of Canadians are just one shot off the lead in a tie for third after the first round of the LPGA Tour’s Lotte Championship in Oahu.
Both Alena Sharp and Brooke Henderson shot three-under 69s on Wednesday.
Sharp opened with a birdie on the first hole, but put up bogeys on the second and third holes, before a birdie on five put her back to even par as she made the turn into a back nine that saw her post birdies on 12, 14 and 16.
Those who were concerned with Henderson starting slowly out of the gate at tournaments earlier this season saw her shake that trend in Hawaii as she did it the opposite of Sharp, putting up three birdies on her first nine.
A bogey on her 11th hole of the day put her back to two under, but she added another birdie at her 14th hole before bogeying the next hole. She came back with a birdie on her 16th hole to finish at three under.
Henderson came into the Lotte Championship with seven consecutive top 10 finishes, including six straight on the LPGA Tour.
Maude-Aimee Leblanc of Sherbrooke, Que., is tied for 23rd after an even par 72, while Samantha Richdale of Kelowna, B.C., shot a one-over 73 after her win last weekend on the Symetra Tour.
