In announcing its player lineup, the Montreal Championship also announced the withdrawals of Nick Price, Fred Couples, Tom Lehman and Kenny Perry.
According to event officials, Price has been having problems with an injury that has kept him out of competition since March.
They also said Couples thought it wiser to withdraw from the tournament because of back trouble that has flared up again. Lehman and Perry, they both withdrew for personal reasons.
“I can’t hide the fact that we’re disappointed that these golfers are not going to be at the tournament,” said David Skitt, director of the Montreal Championship.
Skitt did confirm, however, the 26 of the top 30 on this year’s Champions Tour money list will be in the field.
Michael Allen, the No. 1 player on the money list and a competitor in the just-concluded U.S. Open, will be on hand as will John Cook and Larry Mize, who won the first two editions of the Montreal event,
World Golf Hall of Fame members Tom Kite and Hale Irwin will also be in Montreal when the event begins on Friday.
It was also announced that the Montreal Championship had given three exemptions to Quebec players Jean Laforce and Marc Girouard, who will join Claude Tremblay, winner of the Challenge AGP, in the field.
