Brooke Henderson wins her third LPGA championship by successfully defending the title she won in 2015 at the Portland Cambia Classic … Fire destroys the clubhouse at Bell Bay Golf Club in Baddeck, N.S., but club swings back into operation just a few days later … Royal Ottawa celebrates its 125th anniversary … Peter Kowalchuk, a longtime sales representative for Wilson in Southwestern Ontario, passes away … RBC agrees to six-year extension as title sponsor of the RBC Canadian Open, being played this week at Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ont., and the RBC Heritage. The new arrangements take effect in 2018 and continue through 2023 … Jhonattan Vegas wins the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey, where amateur Jared du Toit of Kimberly, B.C., plays in the final group on Sunday and eventually ties for ninth to take low Canadian honors … Terry Parker, one of several partners to open Hidden Lake in Burlington, Ont., in 1979, passes away just two days after his 67th birthday, after a battle with cancer.
Nike Golf announces that it is getting out of the golf balls, clubs and bags business and will focus on footwear and apparel … Golf makes its return to the Olympics in Rio, where Graham DeLaet finishes 20th in the men’s event and David Hearn ties for 30th … Dan Campbell of the Oxford Golf and Country Club at Craigowan in Ontario is named the PGA of Canada’s 25th Master Professional … Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., sets himself up for graduation to the PGA Tour after winning the Price Cutter Championship in Springfield, Mo. … Brooke Henderson ties for seventh in women’s golf at the Olympics in Rio, while Hamilton’s Alena Sharp finishes 30th … Toronto’s Rebecca Lee-Bentham, the 2010 Canadian Junior champion and 2011 Canadian Amateur winner who played on both the LPGA and Symetra Tours, announces that the CP Women’s Open in Calgary will be the last of her regular tour career as she looks for other opportunities … The National Golf Course Owners Association Canada announces the hiring of Greg Chambers as regional director of its Eastern Ontario/Outaouais Chapter … The PGA of British Columbia names Jack Westover as the recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award … Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand wins the CP Women’s Open at Priddis Greens near Calgary, where Hamilton’s Alena Sharp enjoys a career-best fourth place finish. Brooke Henderson and Maude-Aimee Leblanc each tie for 14th … Callaway Golf Company announces it has acquired Toulon Design. Based in Vista, Calif., Toulon Design is a premium milled putter company specializing in performance-driven design and customization … Don Harrison, who spent 18 years as head professional at Essex Golf and Country Club near Windsor, Ont., and renowned for his kids’ programs in the area, dies at the age of 72.

However, the club’s lease on the land ends in 2033 and it’s expected the Musqueam band will develop the land afterwards … Vivian Tsui of Markham, Ont., wins the PGA Women’s Championship of Canada on the first playoff hole at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club in Mississauga, Ont. … After three years as a member of Canada’s men’s amateur team, Blair Hamilton of Burlington, Ont., turns professional … Golfsmith files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a deal that includes the sale of Golf Town in Canada to CI Financial Corp. and Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. … Calgary’s Dustin Risdon wins the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada by 11 shots at the Golf Club at Lora Bay in Thornbury, Ont. … Adam Cornelson of Langley, B.C., is named Freedom 55 Financial Canadian Player of the Year on the Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada … Arnold Palmer dies in Pittsburgh of complications from a heart condition. The King was 87 … Douglas Campbell, Accredited Golf Superintendent (AGS) from the Riverside Country Club in Saskatoon, is named CGSA/Bayer Superintendent of the Year for 2016 … Ken McBride, a golf professional who spent 20 years at Miramichi Golf and Country Club in New Brunswick, passes away at the age of 77 … Toronto’s Rebecca Lee-Bentham, who announced her retirement as a touring professional on the LPGA/Symetra Tours, joins the Bradlee Ryall Golf/Kaneff Golf Academies and will lead Junior Girls High Performance programs … Jordan Carbone, assistant in training at Mad River Golf Club in Creemore, Ont., is the 2016 winner of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association/Toro Future Superintendent of the Year Award … Colin Montgomerie comes from three shots off the lead to force a playoff at the Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship in Victoria in which he defeated Scott McCarron on the third extra hole. The PGA Tour Champions event will return to Bear Mountain in 2017.
