The PGA of Ontario announces that Kenesky Murray Golf Services will manage several events within the association’s tournament program … Jim Kenesky and Colin Murray, both of Hamilton, become majority co-owners of the Great Lakes Golf Tour. The purchase includes shares of the GLT and the Southern Ontario Open … The Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada and Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) introduce the Oil Country Championship, a new event for 2016 to be played at Edmonton’s Glendale Golf and Country Club … The Newmark Group, which now owns Sagebrush Golf and Sporting Club in Merritt, B.C., announces that Troon Golf will manage the club … Golf Canada reverses its decision that would allow scores from rounds played alone to count for handicap purposes, instead voting to go along with a USGA revision that would not allow such scores … The Great Lakes Tour (GLT) announces a three-year partnership with the newly formed, Quebec-based Circuit Canada Pro Tour (CCPT). “The relationship moving forward will allow our members on the GLT to play for significant purses while managing a travel schedule similar to that of a major tour,” says Kenesky … The City of Kelowna, B.C., purchases the Shadow Ridge Golf Club with plans for future airport expansion, but it will remain open for the foreseeable future.
Ontario’s Ken Tarling earns playing privileges for 2016 on the European Senior Tour once again at qualifying school in Portugal … The Mackenzie Tour–PGA Tour Canada and GolfBC introduce a new event for 2016. The inaugural GolfBC Championship will take place June 6-12 at Gallagher’s Canyon Golf and Country Club in Kelowna, B.C. GolfBC, which owns and operates a collection of golf courses throughout British Columbia and in Hawaii, will be the title sponsor as part of a four-year agreement … The Mackenzie Tour–PGA Tour Canada announces a three-year extension and new name for the Cape Breton Open, formerly called the Cape Breton Celtic Classic, which moves to Bell Bay Golf Club in Baddeck, N.S., in 2016 … The PGA of Canada introduces the Hyundai PGA Scramble of Canada, a new national series of events taking place at more than 200 golf facilities around the country in 2016, culminating with regional finals and a national final later in the year … The Great Lakes Tour and GolfNorth Properties have formed a relationship for 2016 that will see the creation of the GolfNorth Series on the tour schedule … Don Campbell, a 48-year member of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association and former superintendent/general manager of the Riverside Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon, passes away … GolfNorth announces it has acquired Forest Golf and Country Hotel in Forest, Ont., and Sand Hills Golf Club in Port Franks, Ont. With these acquisitions, GolfNorth’s portfolio now includes 29 golf courses … Former Nova Scotia Golf Association (NSGA) president John Horton, long-time golf volunteer Jim Clark and two posthumous honourees, former NSGA historian Allan “Bunny” Dunlop and blind golfer Brian MacLeod are the 2016 recipients of Golf Canada’s Distinguished Service Awards … Golf Canada releases its annual report at its annual general meeting in Halifax, including financial statements that show a loss for 2015 of $915,495. That loss comes a year after Golf Canada reported a loss of $1,400,675 … Windmill Golf Group and Radium Golf Group announce a strategic management agreement in which Windmill will manage both the Springs and Radium Courses near Radium Hot Springs, B.C.
The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame announces that that Lorie Kane of Charlottetown, two-time Canadian Amateur champion Warren Sye of London, Ont., and golf journalist Bob Weeks of Toronto will be its 2016 inductees … Jason Clarke is named the new chief operating officer at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto. The announcement comes after Joe Murphy moved from St. George’s to the Thornhill Golf and Country Club, north of Toronto … Eric Tobin is named manager of golf course operations at Bell Bay Golf Club in Baddeck, N.S., replacing Michael Gillan … After more than 10 months on the picket line, locked-out food and beverage workers return to work at the Nanaimo Golf Club in B.C., with outstanding issues to be settled through binding arbitration … Ontario golf professional and former Canadian Tour and Champions Tour player Craig Marseilles, long associated with the National Golf Club of Canada, dies after a battle with cancer … Former PGA of Canada president Gregg Schubert joins Calgary-based Windmill Golf Group as a regional manager … Doug Wilson expands his role and will also serve director of membership sales and marketing for the Bigwin Island Golf Club in Lake of Bays in the Muskoka region of Ontario … Former National Golf Course Owners Association of Canada president and owner of Toronto’s Royal Woodbine Golf Club Larry Ungerman passes away in Florida … Brooke and Brittany Henderson receive honourary memberships at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club.
