The top two players in the women’s world rankings and the new U.S. Women’s Open champion will be at Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge, Ont., for this year’s Manulife LPGA Classic, Sept. 1-4.
World No. 1 Lydia Ko will be joined by Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., as well as Brittany Lang, who won the U.S. Women’s Open at CordeValle in San Martin, Calif, on Sunday.
“Both Ko and Henderson have accomplished so much at such young ages. I’m excited to see what they will do when we welcome them back to the Manulife LPGA Classic,” said tournament director Milaina Wright.
“It’s likely with this strong field of contenders that the fans will also be watching some newly-minted medal winners from the Rio Olympics,” she added.
Also returning is 15-time LPGA Tour winner Suzann Pettersen, who won last year, and Hamilton’s Alena Sharp, who will join Henderson at the Olympics in Rio.
“It’s encouraging when my family and friends are able to come out and support me. I’m fortunate that I get to play so close to where I grew up,” said Sharp.
Former world No. 1 Stacy Lewis had already committed to the tournament.
