The Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada gets underway this week with the Freedom 55 Financial Open at Vancouver’s Point Grey Golf and Country Club.
At the end of the season, the top finisher on the tour’s money list will earn a full exemption on the Web .com Tour, while finishers two through five will get conditional status.
Finishers six through 10 on the Order of Merit will receive exemptions into the final stage of Web .com Tour Q-school and 11 through 20 will earn exemptions into the second stage.
Vancouver’s Stuart MacDonald and Eric Banks have received the two sponsor exemptions into this week’s event that go to former or current members of the Canadian national team.
Other sponsor exemptions into the Vancouver event include James Allenby of Langley, B.C., Devin Carrey of Surrey, B.C., A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam, B.C., Tony Gil of Vaughan, Ont., Bryn Parry of North Vancouver and Mitch Sutton of London, Ont.
Steven Lecuyer of Grimshaw, Alta., and Victoria’s Darren Hupfer and Darren Day Monday qualified at Swan-e-Set Bay Resort and Country Club
A total of 30 Canadians are in the field including 16 players from B.C. Others include Brad Clapp (Chilliwack), Adam Cornelson (Langley), Brendan Dillon (Port Moody), Seann Harlingten (West Vancouver), Thomas Hay (Langley), Stuart MacDonald (Vancouver), Cory Renfrew (Victoria), Kevin Spooner (West Vancouver); Riley Wheeldon (Comox); Ryan Williams (Vancouver).
