Claude Grenier shot a three-under 69 to lead the Mr. Lube PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada after the first round Wednesday at Tangle Creek in Barrie, Ont.
“I’m pretty happy with shooting three under in my first round,” the 56-year-old from Wimpassing, Austria said. “This golf course is very solid with greens that demand your attention with all the different levels.”
Just one shot back of Grenier is Gary Jeffrey of the nearby Georgian Bay Club, who posted a two-under 70.
Jeffrey, who earlier this summer captured the PGA of Ontario’s Senior Summer Challenge, admitted he was feeling the nerves early in his round.
“I got off to a pretty shaky start because I had the jitters, but once I settled down I was pretty consistent,” he said. “This golf course is just in fantastic shape and the greens are rolling really nicely.”
