In his first amateur tournament since rocking the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey, a triple bogey at the end of the first round of the Porter Cup left Jared du Toit at three over and eight shots off the lead.
He still has time to make up lost ground as the Porter Cup continues through Saturday at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y.
With four birdies and four bogeys behind him on Wednesday, du Toit, who tied for ninth on Sunday at Glen Abbey, put up his triple on the par four 17th in Lewiston before parring 18 and finishing with a 73 that left him tied for 44th.
Toronto’s Simon McInnis is the top Canadian on the leaderboard in a tie for 13th at even par.
