Judith Kyrinis of Toronto prevailed in the all-Canadian final at the U.S. Senior Women’s Championship at Waverley Country Club in Portand, Ore., on Friday.
Kyrinis defeated Terrill Samuel, also from Toronto, 4&3 in a match that saw Kyrinis go 1-up on the opening hole, which she parred while Samuel bogeyed.
It would remain that way until the par five fifth, where Samuel hit through trees to make par, while Kyrinis bogeyed to send the match back to all square.
It looked as if Kyrinis would restore her lead on the next hole, a par three, but Samuel blasted a buried lie from the front lip of a bunker to three feet as both player parred the hole to keep it all square.
Kyrinis birdied the next hole to restore her 1-up lead and it remained that way as she made the turn to a back nine on which she would win three holes on 12, 13 and 15 to take the title, after finishing as runner-up three years ago.
