With rain and lightning once again forcing delays at the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ont., Jerry Kelly is at 11-under, holding a one-shot lead over Martin Laird, Tim Herron, Camilo Villegas and Nathan Green.
A band of thunderstorms blew through to force another delay at 4:06 p.m. and, while play resumed at 7 p.m., the tournament only managed to get in another 29 minutes before play was halted again with 145 players still to finish the second round and 79 yet to tee off.
Play resumes Saturday at 7:30 a.m., but more rain is predicted.
“Unfortunately, the forecast for Saturday afternoon is 80 per cent chance of rain, starting about 2 o’clock, so that puts us in jeopardy of even finishing the second round,” said PGA Tour official Steve Carman.
“The other side of the coin is it is a forecast and forecasts tend to be incorrect, so hopefully, it will be and we’ll get the third round started and play and finish the third round on Sunday and play the fourth round and have a champion Sunday at 6.”
Carmen added that the tour is still focused on playing 72 holes even if the tournament runs into Monday.
“If we’re unable to play on Monday, or can’t finish by the end of the day Monday, then the option would be to go back to 54 holes, but we’re pretty much regulated to try and get 72 holes in by the end of the day Monday.”
The following are scores of Canadians in the field as of the end of play Friday night.
