Super Award Deadlines
Upcoming Canadian Golf Superintendents Association awards deadlines for nominations include the Presidents’s Scholarship Award on June 30 and the John B. Steel Award on July 1.

New GMIC Courses
The Golf Management Institute of Canada has a couple of new online courses beginning in late May.
George Pinches, chief operating officer of the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, will lead a Golf Club Governance course that begins May 28 and entrepreneur Colin McDougall will lead a Finance for Non-Financial Managers in the Golf Industry course that starts May 30.
Both cost $599.
Redwoods Needs Assistant Superintendent
Redwoods Golf Course in Langley, B.C. seeks an assistant superintendent.
Discussing daily, weekly, and monthly goals with the superintendent.
Delegate daily duties to staff in order to achieve these goals.
Scheduling of staff for weekdays, weekends and holidays.
Aid the Superintendent in the maintenance and staffing needs of the driving range.
Aid in irrigation scheduling on a new Rainbird Stratus Central Control.
Oversee all irrigation repairs.
Carry out staff training as per the Redwoods equipment operator’s manual and safety policy.
Be actively involved in all cultural duties and all facets of daily golf course maintenance.
Spraying fertilizers and plant protection products in the absence of the spray technician
Be actively involved in short and long-term planning of capital Ppojects and monitoring the maintenance budget.
Maintain any needed set of daily records.
Must have a minimum of three years experience in a golf course-oriented supervisory role.
Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Pesticide Applicator’s licence or be in the process of obtaining such certification.
Must be in possession of a diploma in Turf Management or the equivalent.
Must hold a valid driver’s licence.
Able to work with Rainbird irrigation and a central control.
Must be well-versed in all aspects of irrigation repair and maintenance.
Able to communicate clearly and professionally with supervisor, management team, staff, owner and guests of the facility.
Able to command the respect and admiration of all staff and effectively lead a strong team.
Able to lift or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
Having a strong knowledge of or the ability to play the game of golf is a definite asset.
