Josh Persons of Fargo, N.D., shot a three-under 67 at Uplands Golf Club in Victoria on Saturday to take a two-shot lead heading into the final round of the Bayview Place Island Savings Open, the second event of PGA Tour Canada season.
“I look forward to it. I had so much fun (Saturday) and I’m hoping to have some fun (Sunday). I can’t wait to get out,” said Persons “I played pretty solid today. I gave myself some chances and stayed out of trouble.”
Persons admitted he would likely feel the pressure on Sunday, but that he would simply try to make the most of the situation and enjoy it.
“It’s where you want to be,” said Persons. “Let’s have some fun (Sunday). In the past, I’ve been very nervous and I’m sure I’ll be nervous again.”
James Allenby of Langley, B.C. is the lone Canadian in the top 10 heading into Sunday’s final round after a three-under 67 left him tied for fifth at eight under.
“I’m really proud of the way I played this week. I played really strong,” said Allenby. “I gave one back at 16, but as far as the whole day goes, it was just a solid game of golf that I played and I’m really proud of that.”
