Brooke Henderson is on the verge of making her dream come true.
Should she hang on and win the Cambia Portland Classic on Sunday, it’s likely she will receive full-time status on the LPGA Tour.
Henderson, who has been making a case for herself all season. continued to do so in Saturday’s second round when she shot a bogey-free, seven-under 65 that left her on top of the leaderboard at 18 under, five shots ahead of the rest of the field going into the final round.
A victory will likely result in the LPGA Tour, which had previously denied her request for full-time status, reversing that decision and allowing her to bypass Q-school. Sunday’s final round comes just days before Henderson is to play at the CP Women’s Open in Vancouver.
Also heading to Vancouver is Hamilton’s Alena Sharp, who could also arrive after a strong finish in Portland. Sharp shot a two-under 70 on Saturday and is tied for ninth at nine-under, nine back of Henderson’s leading score
