Brooke Henderson goes into the weekend at the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout in a tie for sixth after firing a three-under 68 in soft conditions at the Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, Tx.
“It was a lot more scoreable than it was yesterday, especially in the morning it was a little bit softer after the rain last night and the greens were holding and you were able to be aggressive,” said Henderson, who finished with four birdies and a bogey.
“I didn’t really take advantage as much as I would have liked, but three under is a solid round and I’ll have to be better on the weekend,” she said.
Henderson goes into the weekend five shots off the lead, looking not only to make a run to the top of the leaderboard, but also continue a streak of top-10 finishes that was at nine, including eight on the LPGA Tour coming in.
Henderson finished her round before play was suspended at 4:02 p.m. local time due to inclement weather. It was eventually called for the day due to lightning in the area.
At the time, amateur Maddie Szeryk, a dual Canadian-U.S. citizen, was flirting with the cut line as she was one under for the day through 13 holes and one over for the tournament.
Alena Sharp was two over for the tournament and the day through eight holes, while Maude-Aimee Leblanc and Samantha Richdale were each at four over and had finished their second rounds, likely to miss the cut.
