Jennifer Greggain of Rosedale, B.C., fired a two-under 70 to take the opening round lead at the CN Canadian Women’s Tour event at Blue Springs Golf Club in Acton, Ont., on Monday.
Greggain goes into Tuesday’s second round with a one-shot lead over Courtney Erdman of Arcadia, Ca., and two shots ahead of Stephanie Sherlock of Barrie, Ont., Winnipeg’s Stacey Bieber, Vanessa Vela of Celebration, Fla., Hamilton’s Ashley Sholer and Lisa Ferrero of Lodi, Ca.
“I play once a week, so I didn’t come out with a lot of expectations,” said Greggain, a club professional at Bridal Falls Golf Club in Rosedale. “My theme this week is to just play relaxed and just make my targets.”
Greggain has a challenge ahead on Tuesday with 29 players within five strokes of the lead. The winner takes home $10,000 and earns an exemption into the 2010 CN Canadian Women’s Open to be played in Winnipeg later this summer.
