The Great Lakes Tour and GolfNorth Properties have formed a relationship for 2016 that will see the creation of the GolfNorth Series on the tour schedule.
The new GolfNorth Series will be replacing the old Regular Series 18 hole stroke play events.
The series will be contested over seven events that will be exclusively contested on GolfNorth facilities, featuring stops at Grey Silo, Batteaux Creek, Oliver’s Nest, Mystic, Rebel Creek, Foxwood and GolfNorth headquarters at Conestoga Golf and Country Club.
“This is a great relationship for both parties.” said tour president Jim Kenesky.
“GolfNorth has some great facilities under their umbrella, which are located in hotbed communities for golf. We have had some events with GolfNorth in the past and our experiences have been wonderful.”
GolfNorth has been in the news quite frequently with announcements of three new properties in the past month, including their latest, Whitetail Golf Club near Lindsay Ont.
“It is an exciting time for us at GolfNorth,” said Mike Turner, vice president of GolfNorth Properties.
“From the recent acquisitions, to forging partnerships like the one with the Great Lakes Tour. We both have the common goals of promoting the game and our brands and I look forward to seeing where this can go,” added Turner.
The new GolfNorth Series will be included for all members of the Great Lakes Tour. There will be a separate GolfNorth Points Race that will see leaders by certain dates earn paid entry fees into Circuit Canada Pro Tour events.
The relationship will also see a boost in one day purses. For each 2016 Great Lakes Basic and National membership sold, GolfNorth will contribute an amount back into the purses for the series.
They will also be providing a card for all members to be used for discounts throughout the season at their facilities.
“We wanted to create a program that was equally beneficial. With our relationship with the Circuit Canada Pro Tour in Quebec, we expect to see an increase of interest in our memberships,” said Kenesky.
“However, we felt that our one-day events needed a boost to allow larger fields and more exposure to GolfNorth Properties,” he added.
“We expect to mutually promote each other through our communications and the goal is to have the most attractive fields possible, so we can showcase the GolfNorth product,” said Kenesky.
The relationship is currently set for one year, but both Kenesky and Turner agree that a long term arrangement is very likely if they see support through their channels.
The 15th season on the Great Lakes Tour is set to begin on Thursday April 28 for their annual Shootout and the first GolfNorth Series event will take place a week later on May 5 at Grey Silo Golf Club in North Waterloo, Ont.
The schedule also features two 36-hole events at GolfNorth facilities, the Paris Championship on June 20-21 at Paris Grand Golf Club and the Collingwood Classic Aug. 11-12 at Batteaux Creek Golf Club, which will act as the final qualifying event for $175,000 CCPT National Event a week later.
