Golf Canada has partnered with PGA Tour Canada to host the latter’s Tour Championship, which has also introduced its presenting sponsor in Freedom 55 Financial.
Freedom 55 Financial is a division of London Life Insurance and has agreed to a multi-year agreement that will see the event played in London, Ont., beyond this year. The 2013 event will be played Sept. 12-15 at Sunningdale Golf and Country Club in London.
“With a quality organization like Freedom 55 Financial, an experienced host in Golf Canada and a tremendous golf course at Sunningdale, we have all the right pieces in place for an outstanding finish to our inaugural season,” said Jeff Monday, president of PGA Tour Canada, which replaces what was the Canadian Tour.
Mike Cuneen, senior vice president for Freedom 55 Financial, said the event was a good fit for his company.
“The tour inspires competitive golfers and fans alike across the country,” he said. “It’s also exciting London has been selected as host of the Tour Championship of Canada.”
The event will also feature a partnership between PGA Tour Canada and Golf Canada, which runs events such as the RBC Canadian Open, CN Canadian Women’s Open and national amateur championships.
“Some of Canada’s best and brightest PGA Tour prospects will be competing at this event and we are honoured to be a part of the excitement surrounding the PGA Tour’s continued support of the game in Canada,” said Golf Canada executive director Scott Simmons.
The 132-player field will be based on the 2013 Order of Merit. Five WebDotCom Tour cards will be available at the end of the tour season.
