Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., the second-ranked amateur in the world, and Hamilton’s Alena Sharp, gunning for her fourth tournament title, will be in the field when the PGA Women’s Championship of Canada takes place at FireRock Golf Club in Komoka, Ont., just outside of London.
Henderson, 16, was the low amateur at the U.S. Women’s Open where she tied for 10th in a summer that has seen her win events such as the Porter Cup and a Canadian Women’s Tour event, among others.
Sharp, an LPGA Tour regular who won the Symeta Tour’s season-opening event earlier this year, won the PGA of Canada event in 2004, 2011 and 2012.
The 36-hole event, now the third and final stop of the Canadian Women’s Tour, tees off Wednesday and concludes on Thursday. Sharp and Henderson will be together, along with Samantha Richdale of Kelowna, B.C., in the 9:30 a.m. pairing local time.
