The Southern Ontario Open has become a prime ground for entrance into the newest event on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada schedule.
Not only will the champion of this year’s Southern Ontario Open receive an exemption into the Mackenzie Investments Open, July 20-23 at Club de Golf Quatre Domaines in Mirabel, Que., but so will the Order of Merit leader on the Great Lakes Tour at the conclusion of that event, July 12-15 at Hidden Lake Golf Club in Burlington, Ont.
An additional three spots will also be available at Hidden Lake at a qualifying event on Monday, July 10, just before the Southern Ontario Open gets underway.
“In our vision to offer elite Canadian professionals and amateurs more opportunities to compete and develop their skills, this announcement couldn’t be more welcome,” said Great Lakes Tour president Jim Kenesky.
“We had such a great Southern Ontario Open last year, and with these exemptions and the three-spot qualifier on Monday, it will help put this championship back to where it should be as one of Ontario’s major golf tournaments,” he added.
