Dual citizen Austin Connelly birdied the 17th hole on Saturday to shoot a three-under 69 and remain in the hunt for his first professional title with 18 holes remaining at the ATB Financial Classic in Calgary.
Connelly goes into Sunday’s final round of the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada event two shots off the lead held by England’s Charlie Bull, who shot a seven-under 65 on Saturday to move to 16 under after three rounds.
Connelly is playing his first full season on the Mackenzie Tour and has two top-10 finishes through seven events, including a solo third three weeks ago at the Staal Foundation Open, his best finish to date as a professional.
Once this week’s event is over, Connelly heads to Illinois, where he will play the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic next week on a sponsor’s exemption. Connelly already has five PGA TOUR appearances to his credit, making the cut on three occasions.
