The Montreal Championship has become the Quebec City Championship with news on Friday that the Champions Tour event is moving to La Tempête Golf Club in Lévis, Que.
The Quebec City Championship will be played the week of Sept. 1-7. Synchro Sports will continue as tournament promoter and the Remparts de Quebec will join in as official marketing partners.
“We realize the strategic importance of growing the Champions Tour brand globally and continuing to have a strong presence in Canada,” said Champions Tour president Mike Stevens.
“Following the success of the Champions Tour in Montreal and Calgary, our players could not be more excited to now visit one of the most historic and charming cities in North America next year,” added Stevens.
The 54-hole Quebec City Championship, featuring an 81-player field will post a $1.6 million U.S. prize purse, with the winner earning $240,000. All three rounds will be broadcast on the Golf Channel.
Our government is proud to support the regions of Quebec in their efforts to stimulate international investments, increase tourism revenues and attract international organizations,” said the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec.
Former champions in Montreal include Larry Mize (2010), John Cook (2011), Mark Calcavecchia (2012) and Esteban Toledo (2013).
“Welcoming the Champions Tour to the Quebec City region is a unique opportunity to demonstrate to the sports world the numerous attractive features of the city and will contribute to the national and international standing of the entire region,” said Quebec City mayor Regis Labeaume.
“Sports tourism is the most rapidly growing tourism sector and we could not be more proud to showcase the capital city to the entire world next year,” added Labeaume.
