The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association announced its 2012 award winners at its Fall Field Day national golf chammpionship in Osoyoos, B.C., last week.
Brian Youell, Master Superintendent at the Uplands Golf Club in Victoria, was named Superintendent of the Year.
Cameron Shaw, second assistant at the Burlington Golf and Country Club in Burlington, Ont., was named Future Superintendent of the Year.
Pelino Scenna, Master Superintendent Emeritus and a member of the CGSA for 43 years, was the recipient of the John B. Steel Award for the individual chosen by the association board of directors or a member for outstanding contribution to the advancement of the profession.
Pelino was superintendent for 21 years at the Galt Country Club in Southwestern Ontario, before moving to the Burlington Golf and Country Club, where he was superintendent for another 21 years until his retirement in 2006.
The CGSA also announced the recipients of the President’s Scholarship Award, a post-secondary award to recognize the scholastic achievements of students who are children or grandchildren of a CGSA member.
Kimberly Bloski and Kathryn Bloski, both daughters of Kevin Bloski, an industry member of the CGSA and a representative from Early’s Farm and Garden Centre in Saskatoon, Sask., are the 2012 recipients of the 2012.
Kathryn will be seeking a Bachelor degree in Home Economics at the University of Saskatchewan and Kimberly will be studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree, also at the University of Saskatchewan.
