The first two of four spots available at Monday qualifying for this week’s RBC Canadian Open went to Canadians, but Americans survived a six-man playoff for the last two spots up for grabs at Heron Point Golf Links in Alberton, Ont., on Monday.
Drew Nesbitt of Shanty Bay, Ont., and Riley Wheeldon of Comox, B.C., each fired five-under 66 to top the field and take the first two spots into this week’s Open at Glen Abbey.
The other two spots were up for grabs between Nyasha Mauchaza of Zimbabwe, Blair Hamilton of Burlington, Ont., Vancouver’s Stuart MacDonald and Americans Jhared Hack, Lee McCoy and and Hunter Stewart after all shot 67.
McCoy, who clinch his spot on the second extra hole, and Hack on the sixth playoff hole, emerged with the final two spots available.
