Samantha Richdale of Kelowna, B.C., shot a two-under 70 to open the Symetra Tour Championship at LPGA International in Daytona Beach in a tie for 12th, along with Sara-Maude Juneau of Fossambault, Que.
Richdale was one of just two players still mathematically alive to make the top 10 on the tour money list who earn LPGA Tour status next season to shoot under par on Thursday. Richdale needs at least a solo second finish to potentially earn status.
Richdale, who started the week in 19th place on the money list, goes into Friday’s second round four shots off the lead.
Maude-Aimee Leblanc of Sherbrooke, Que., came into the Tour Championship in 15th place on the money list and needs a fourth place finish to possibly finish in the top 10. She opened with a one-over 73 and is tied for 53rd.
Augusta James of Bath, Ont., currently ninth on the money list, opened with a two-over 74 and is tied for 67th.
