Nicole Vandermade of Brantford, Ont., came through with an outstanding effort when she needed it most, posting a final round, four-under 68 to win the Symetra Tour’s Four Winds Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Sunday.
After opening with a 64 on Friday to take the first round lead, Vandermade was one off the lead going into the final round after posting a 72 on Saturday.
After making the turn at one under, Vandermade struck for a pair of birdies on the 10th and 11th holes before an eagle on the par five 16th. She finished with a bogey on 18 and finished at 12 under, one ahead of overnight leader Lee Lopez.
It was the second win by a Canadian on the main development circuit for the LPGA Tour as Hamilton’s Alena Sharp won the season-opening Visit Mesa Gateway Classic in Mesa, Az.
