After not getting any action on Wednesday, as Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada Q-school played catch-up after a weather delay on opening day in Port St. Lucie, Fla., Chris Hemmerich of Kitchener. Ont., finally got his second round in on Thursday.
Hemmerich followed his first round 66 with a one-under 71 and goes into the third round on Friday at seven under, three off the lead held by American amateur Carter Jenkins.
Play was suspended at 7:30 p.m., with the entire field left to complete round three.
“I warmed up for two-and-a-half hours (Wednesday) to not hit a ball and (Thursday), I probably warmed up for an hour-and-a-half and finally got to play, so that was nice. It’s difficult,” said Hemmerich.
(Wednesday), I was honestly pretty lucky to not have to hit that tee shot. I came out today with a fresh mindset and approach,” he added.
Amateur Elliott Whitley of Hamilton is tied for eighth at five under.
The first-place finisher after four rounds receives exempt status, while second through 16th (no ties) will be exempt through the tour’s first reshuffle. The 17th through 40th finishers, including ties, will receive conditional status.
