Christina Proteau of Port Alberni, B.C., has made it to the quarter-finals of the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, being played at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La.
Proteau won 4 and 3 against Martha Leach of Hebron, Ky., in the round of 16 on Thursday and is the lone Canadian left after she defeated Casey Ward of Picton, Ont., the No. 1 seed after winning the stroke play portion of the event, 3 and 1 in the round of 32.
Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay, B.C., lost in 19 holes against Ashley Tonore of Monroe, La., also in the round of 32.
Last year, Proteau also made it to the quarter-finals while six months pregnant, a run in which all three of her matches went 19 holes.
