Next week’s RBC Canadian Open is taking on a strong international flavour, with news Wednesday that Trevor Immelman, Rory Sabbatini and Tim Clark, all from South Africa, will play along with Vijay Singh (Fiji) and Camilo Villegas (Colombia).
To date, 18 countries will be represented when the Open gets underway next week at Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
Players have until 5 p.m. Friday (EST) to register for the Open.
It was also announced that Michael Gliglic of Burlington, Ont., had received an exemption into the Open, which usually awards one each to the top two finishers on the Order of Merit, those being Matt Hill of Bright’s Grove, Ont., and Victoria’s Cory Renfrew.
Gligic is third on the Order of Merit, just over $1,000 behind Renfrew after winning the ATB Financial Classic in late June. Also accepting an exemption on Wednesday was former American amateur standout Patrick Cantlay, who recently turned professional.
