Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C., is making a serious run at status on the PGA Tour at the final event before the Web .com Tour Finals get underway.
Svensson, who was tied for second going into Friday’s second round of the WinCo Foods Portland Open, followed up his first round 64 with a five-under 66 and has a one-shot lead going into the weekend after carding seven birdies and two bogeys, leaving him at 12 under.
Svensson went into Portland in 131st spot with $23,320.15 on the money list. With the top 75 continuing on to the Web .com Finals, the 75th-place player had $64,144.57.
However, the winner’s share of the Portland event is $144,000, which could put Svensson in the top 25 who get their PGA Tour cards this week.
Brad Fritsch of Manotick, Ont., and Corey Conners of Listowel, Ont., each shot 69s on Friday and are tied for 30th at four under.
Calgary’s Ryan Yip is another shot back after a 73 on Friday.
