After a win at the Porter Cup, a tie for 10th for low amateur honours at the recent U.S. Women’s Open and her win at a Canadian Women’s Tour event in Niagara Falls, Brooke Henderson, 16, is keeping the momentum going.
Henderson, 16, took a wire-to-wire victory at the Golf Association of Ontario’s Investors Group Women’s Amateur Championship at Brampton Golf Club.
Henderson finished at 12 under after her fourth round 67 on Friday to finish three ahead of Augusta James of Bath, Ont.
“I had a good opening round and was able to finish it off today. Coming into the tournament, I wanted to get my name on that trophy. There are so many great names on it and I am so happy I was able to do it,” said Henderson.
“My ball striking was really huge. On the first day I had five or six shots where I was inside five feet putting for birdie, which is a huge confidence booster. It really helped me save energy that I needed to win today,” she added.
“It really has been a great last couple of weeks and I have enjoyed it,” she said.
On the men’s side, Chris Hemmerich shot a final round 63 at the Club at North Halton in Georgetown, Ont., to finish at 13 under, one ahead of Corey Conners of Listowel, Ont., and Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont.
