Chris Baryla of Vernon, B.C., fired an 11-under 61 Thursday to jump from a tie for 65th after the first round to the overall lead in the second round of PGA Tour qualifying school at Orange Country National near Orlando.
Baryla sits alone at 10-under for the tournament and holds a one-shot lead.
Baryla, who recorded 11 birdies with no bogeys on Thursday, already has status on tour after receiving a major medical exemption following hip surgery earlier this season, but is at Orange County National to improve his status. He originally made it to the tour last year through the Nationwide Tour money list.
