The Mr. Lube-Canadian PGA Seniors Championship has landed a couple of Canadian Golf Hall of Fame members for its July 5-8 dates at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club in Milton, Ont.
Dave Barr of Kelowna, B.C. missed last year’s event due to a bad back, but he’s back to regain a title he won in 2007, one of 14 major titles Barr has won in this country, including the 1985 Canadian PGA Championship and 12 Canadian Tour events.
“I’m looking forward to once again playing in the Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship,” said the two-time PGA Tour champ. “There is a lot of excitement for the event with new sponsors Mr. Lube and Cleveland Golf/Srixon and the players are eager to battle for that national title.”
Cleveland Golf/Srixon is a presenting sponsor of the event.
Bob Panasik, a nine-time Canadian Tour champion who has also represented Canada at the World Cup on three occasions (1972, 1973, and 1975) will also be at Rattlesnake Point.
Panasik qualified for the U.S, Open 11 times between 1964 and 1983 and for the US Senior Open Championship in 2002, but he’s best known for making the cut as a 15-year-old at the 1957 Canadian Open.
Panasik’s resume includes two Canadian PGA Championships, two Canadian PGA Club Professional titles, three Senior championships and two Super Senior titles.
“Dave Barr and Bob Panasik are two icons of Canadian golf that every golf fan should watch play at least once in their life,” said Canadian PGA president Glenn Cundari.
“We expect the 2010 Mr. Lube – Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon to come down to the final hole and I’m sure Barr and Panasik will be two names near the top of the leaderboard.”
The event will kick off on July 5 with the Mr. Lube Tournament for Life Pro-Am with proceeds benefitting Prostate Cancer Canada.
