When you think of golf, Augusta often comes to mind and it will be more so now that Augusta James of Bath, Ont., has made the decision to turn pro and play mostly on the Symetra Tour, the development circuit for the LPGA Tour.
James, who also has a relationship with PING going forward, won last year’s Canadian Women’s Amateur championship by six shots, one of many titles she’s won over the years including the 2011 Ontario Women’s Amateur and 2010 Ontario Junior titles.
At North Carolina State, James is a former ACC freshman of the year and a three-time all-ACC player.
It’s little wonder that she came away with a name like Augusta considering the focus on golf within her family, which includes dad Geoff, the head professional at Loyalist Golf and Country Club in Bath, and her brother Austin, the winner of last year’s Canadian Junior title.
Augusta chatted with Hutch about what’s ahead and the people who got her to this point in her career. Give it 10 seconds to allow the sound to cue up.
