Aaron Wise of Lake Elsinore, Calif., shot a four-under 68 on Wednesday at Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community to take the second round lead at the Mackenzie Tour–PGA Tour Canada qualifying tournament in Courtenay, B.C.
Wise, currently ranked sixth in the world amateur rankings, carded six birdies against one double bogey to lead by four shots over Jonathan Garrick of Atherton, Calif., through 36 holes.
Wise is at 11 under. Thomas Hay of Langley, B.C., is six shots back in a tie for fifth after he shot a three-under 69 on Wednesday.
Toronto’s Russell Budd is tied for ninth at four under.
Q-school concludes Friday, with the winner receiving fully exempt status, while second through 16th (no ties) will be exempt through the first four events of the schedule and subject to the first reshuffle. The 17th through 40th-place finishers (including ties) will receive conditional status.
