It will be a year ago next week that Brian Hadley shot a 59 in the first round of the Titleist and FootJoy PGA of Ontario Championship at Deer Ridge Golf Club in Kitchener, Ont.
Hadley, who was to play the RBC Canadian Open the following week, had an eight shot lead over Billy Walsh at that point. Here’s what he had to say afterwards with comments from his competitors.
Hadley shot a 69 the following day to win by 10 shots and successfully defended a title he won the year before. He’ll be looking to make it three in a row when the PGA of Ontario event is played Monday and Tuesday, again at Deer Ridge.
“It’s been a tough year so far. I’m not sure what to expect, but I wasn’t expecting to shoot a 59 last summer and somehow I did that,” said Hadley, an associate professional at Thames Valley in London, Ont.
“Hopefully I can get it in play, and there are still some good vibes from last year hanging around,” he added.
