Jonathan Wong Apparel Inc. has become the Canadian distributor for the Original Jones Golf Bag and other models in an agreement with Jones Sports Co. of Portland, Ore.
“With the focus this week on the first major of the year and the launch of the Original Jones Masters edition, with its unique colour scheme, the timing to introduce Jones Golf Bags to the Canadian marketplace couldn’t be better,” said Wong.
“Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, this bag was the standard that everyone who walked a golf course looked up to and wanted over their shoulder, so to see something so simple making a comeback is very exciting,” he said.
Jones Golf Bags was founded in 1971 by George Jones, a part-time golfer and cab driver from Portland, Ore. Distinguished by its sleek, simple looks with its trademark single strap and sturdy nylon bottom base, Jones Golf Bags was designed for players who preferred to walk.
As bag technology and design evolved in the mid 1990s, sales of the Jones brand dwindled and Jones sold the company which faded into obscurity.
Wanting to revitalize the brand they grew up with, Matt and Tim Lemman bought The Original Jones Bags in January of 2012, with the goal of restoring the brand back to its original glory years.
“As a legendary name in the world of golf, Jones Sports Co. celebrates the game as a walking sport and designs lightweight, minimalist golf bags and apparel perfect for the walking golfer,” said Matt Lemman, co-owner Jones Sports Co.
“We’re very excited to re-introduce the Original Jones Bags brand into Canada for 2013 and we’re looking forward to connecting with Canadian golfers through our new partnership with Jonathan Wong and his dedicated sales team,” he added.
Jones Golf bags were officially re-launched in January, 2012, with the Original Jones Golf bag, followed by Players Series and a Jones Rider bag. For 2013, Jones Sports Co. will unveil several Limited Editions along with a single strap Jones Stand bag and a Junior Jones bag.
“We have just started introducing the Jones Golf bags to golf professionals in Canada and the reaction has been very positive,” said Wong.
“The simplicity in the bag design is remembered by generations of golfers and now, we have the ability to share that story with Canadian golfers and their children,” he said.
